Our Mission

The Planetic Foundation is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating street animals that are sick or injured, and with our trusty vehicle, we travel all around the city and beyond, carrying out rescues, providing basic medical care where appropriate, and educating community members about how to care for strays in their locality. All animals are taken to local clinics for veterinary assessments and treatment, and then are either cared for by us until they recover, or left under the care of another local animal welfare organization, HAS, depending on the availability of kennel space and resources at their ABC and Rescue Center.

Do note that overcrowding is a serious issue faced by many shelters throughout India, and to give each rescued animal the very best chance of recovery, we treat, rehabilitate and release, both responsibly and diligently. Those animals with a poor chance of survival remain under our permanent care, and ideally supported by sponsorships in which a monthly amount is donated to cover their costs. As we firmly believe in humanely controlling the street dog population, all animals we rescue that are deemed fit enough for surgery, are sent to veterinary clinics to be spayed or neutered.

We rely on the support and help of the public for every rescue we carry out, and as we are a small team, we often need help with locating distressed animals that have been reported, and with confining them to minimize the stress of capture. If you call to ask for help for an animal in distress, please do your best to help us in whatever way you can, whether it be by confining the animal in your compound, taking the animal to a local veterinary clinic, befriending it so it’s easier to catch and treat, contributing towards the cost of transport or offering to provide a temporary home for them as they recover.

We undertook a vow to leave no street animal alone and in pain, and will always do our best to attend to every call we receive, but we can only do it with the support of the public.

OUR FOUNDERS:

Meet the Team:

Born out of a shared desire to help street animals in need of medical assistance, our small but compassionate team are driven by empathy alone, and seek no reward for the work we carry out, other than to see the animals we rescue, receive the care that they need.

AGASSI

With his own mechanics shed in Bangalore, while Agassi is an animal lover just like his younger brother, Austlin, it wasn’t until he moved to Coimbatore and saw what Ganesan and his brother were doing, that he decided to become a part of The Planetic Foundation. Initially helping out in his spare time, he is now an integral member of the organization and has carried out hundreds of rescues, many of which have been difficult and dangerous.

Austlin

Having always been an animal lover, and a compassionate person who refuses to turn a blind eye to an animal’s suffering (from cats and dogs to snakes and birds), Austlin has spent much of his life saving animals and helping them recover. Qualified in hotel management and having worked as a Head Chef in Bangalore, Austlin moved to Coimbatore amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and soon began getting involved in rescuing needy animals. He was also involved in feeding hundreds of homeless animals, and credits his dedication and commitment to the voiceless to his childhood, during which he was raised in an animal loving household.

GANESAN

While working as a medical transcriptionist, Ganesan decided he could no longer sit back and watch as animals were left to suffer on the streets, and he began carrying out small rescues; getting medical treatment for the animals and caring for them in his home. Having met Austlin in 2020 – who was rescuing a puppy from a ditch at the time – the pair decided to unite in their passion for animals, and formed The Planetic Foundation. Together, they secured a small space in which to treat and rehabilitate the animals they were rescuing, and began forming a support network among friends, community members and other animal lovers in the city.

OUR BOARD MEMBERS & TRUSTEES:

Anitha Brigith

Board member and trustee

As a child growing up, Anitha’s home was always full of abandoned dogs that her father helped find homes for. His actions inspired her to become the compassionate person she is today, and when her son brought home a sick stray dog eight years ago, the whole family helped her heal and grow stronger. Then, seeing so many starving and sick puppies abandoned near a garbage disposal area close to her home, Anitha started trying to help as many as she could by taking them in and finding loving homes for them. Understanding the importance of sterilizaton to prevent unwanted litters and over population, she also arranged for the mother dogs to be spayed, during which time she met the rest of The Planetic team members. Together, they discussed their shared passion for animals and desire to help as many needy dogs as they could, and decided to start an official NGO.

Arun shekar

Board member and trustee

An animal lover from a very young age, Arun could not stand by and watch as innocent creatures suffered, and before becoming involved with The Planetic Foundation, he spent much of his time helping rescue male calves destined for slaughter and sought homes for them in local gaushalas. But with the plight of street dogs so very apparent, and with so few people to care for them, Arun wanted desperately to do more to help them. When he realized that there was a small group of local folks rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured dogs (and other animals, too), he decided to help them in whatever way he could. His support not only in caring for needy dogs at his home but also in helping find loving homes for rescued animals, made him an obvious choice as a trustee, and his physical and financial support has helped The Planetic Foundation become the devoted group of animal rescuers you see today.
